NOT YOUR AVERAGE GAMER GIRLS.

Not Your Average Gamer Girl (NYAGG) is an activist collective that was inspired by our own experiences being women online.

So often is being online as someone who is not a cisgender man met with cirticism and hate. The media is essential to providing tools to use to make sense of our world, culture, and identity. The issue we see is that the media is entrenched in white, male Eurocentrism, especially when you look at gaming. We work to undo and combat the poor representation marginalized groups have in video games, the treatment they receive within video game culture, and point out the lack of diversity happening behind the scenes in video game production.

Equal Play is our first big campaign, but not our last. Its purpose is to draw people into what our collective does through creating a viral short documentary. The campaign itself is hosted on this website that includes our short documentary, followed by contributor blog posts and activist posters. We intend for the short documentary’s humorous nature to contextualize the type of discrimination women face in video game culture. The blog posts and posters highlight future steps that video gamers can take to combat discrimination. These steps will help to promote positive representation both on screen and off.
